Day 47, Match 63, LSG vs MI Highlights, IPL 2023
Lucknow Super Giants demonstrated composure in the final overs, securing a hard-fought five-run triumph against the Mumbai Indians. Despite chasing a target of 178, the Mumbai Indians could only reach 172/5 in their allotted 20 overs. Ravi Bishnoi played a crucial role in dismissing Ishan Kishan and
Rohit Sharma , swinging the momentum back in favor of Lucknow Super Giants. The MI openers had initially placed their team in a commanding position by adding 90 runs.
Ishan contributed 59 runs, while Rohit impressed with his 37. During the middle overs, Yash Thakur eliminated
Suryakumar Yadav and Vishnu Vinod, once again giving Lucknow Super Giants the upper hand.
In the Powerplay, Ishan and Sharma provided a strong start for the Mumbai Indians, accumulating 58 runs in six overs while chasing a target of 178.
Lucknow Super Giants' Marcus Stoinis played an exceptional innings, remaining unbeaten on 89 off 47 deliveries. His blistering performance in the final overs propelled the team to a challenging total of 177/3 against the Mumbai Indians. Krunal Pandya also made a solid contribution of 49 runs before retiring.
Piyush Chawla had an immediate impact, dismissing Quinton de Kock with his very first delivery of the match. Subsequently, Pandya and Stoinis formed a partnership to recover from the early setback.
Jason Behrendorff provided two crucial
breakthroughs for the Mumbai Indians , taking out Deepak Hooda and Prerak Mankad in consecutive deliveries.
In the match, the Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bowl first against Lucknow Super Giants. The visitors made one change to their lineup, bringing in Hrithik Shokeen in place of Kumar Kartikeya. Lucknow Super Giants, on the other hand, made three changes by including Deepak Hooda, Naveen-ul-Haq, and Mohsin Khan.
The Mumbai Indians have been strong contenders for the playoffs, winning four of their last five matches. Their powerful batting lineup has been their major asset, enabling them to comfortably chase down targets exceeding 200. However, their bowling department has been a weakness, especially with the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer due to injuries.

While the Mumbai Indians have thrived on batting-friendly pitches, they face a distinct challenge at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, similar to their
match against the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. This venue has been the slowest throughout the season, making it difficult for batsmen to score freely.
Spinners have played a dominant role, and this trend is expected to continue. The previous match at this venue was abandoned due to rain, and Lucknow Super Giants' last home victory occurred on April 7. Since then, they have suffered three consecutive defeats. The so-called home advantage has not favored them, and they have also been affected by the absence of their captain and opener, KL Rahul, due to injury. Krunal Pandya has taken up the leadership responsibilities in Rahul's absence.
