Day 21, Match 27, RCB vs PBKS - IPL 2023 Highlights
The 27th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 was held in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. RCB won by 24 runs against Punjab Kings.
On Thursday, the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali hosted the first of two IPL 2023 clashes between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings.
After winning the toss, Punjab decided to bowl first and RCB put up a total of 174/4 on the board. In response, Punjab struggled to chase the target down and was bowled out for just 150 runs, resulting in a 24-run victory for RCB.
The opening partnership between RCB's Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis proved to be the backbone of their innings. They took the score to 108/0 in just 13 overs, providing an excellent platform for the team to build upon.
However, Punjab's bowlers showed great resilience and managed to contain RCB's scoring rate, limiting them to a manageable total. Kohli scored a gritty 59 off 47 balls, while du Plessis was the top scorer of the match, smashing 84 off 56 balls. Unfortunately, du Plessis had to be subbed off due to a rib injury, and Kohli took over the captaincy in his absence.
Punjab, on the other hand, was without their regular captain, Shikhar Dhawan, and it showed in their performance.
They lost four wickets in the powerplay, and despite some resistance from Jitesh Sharma lower down the order, they were never really in the game. Prabhsimran Singh played a good knock, scoring 46 off 30 balls, but he did not get enough support from the other batsmen in the early stages of the innings.

Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler for RCB, taking four wickets for just 21 runs. He picked up two wickets with the new ball and then returned to take two more wickets at the death.
Siraj's display of bowling was exceptional and put RCB in a commanding position in the match. Wanindu Hasaranga was also impressive, taking two wickets for 39 runs. Wayne Parnell and Harshal Patel took a wicket each, with Patel taking the last wicket of the match.
Harpreet Brar was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab, taking two wickets in a single over. His performance helped to slow down RCB's scoring rate after a blistering start, but it wasn't enough to contain RCB's total within a manageable range.
Despite keeping RCB's total to a chasable target, Punjab's batting performance was not up to the mark and they were comfortably beaten by 24 runs.
In conclusion, RCB was the better team on the day and deservedly won the match. Du Plessis' injury was a concern for RCB, but the team would be pleased with the performance of their bowlers, especially Siraj.
Punjab would need to regroup and come up with a better performance in the second match to avoid going 0-2 down in the tournament. The fans would eagerly wait for the next match between the two teams, hoping for another exciting contest.
