Day 57, Match 73, GT vs MI - Qualifier 2 - Highlights, IPL 2023
BADSHAHCRIC :
In an exciting match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Shubman Gill played exceptionally well, scoring 129 runs off only 60 balls. This was his third century of the IPL 2023 season and helped Gujarat Titans set a huge target of 233/3 against Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 match. Despite a 30-minute rain delay, Gill thrilled the crowd in Ahmedabad with his powerful hitting, smashing ten sixes and seven fours with great timing and elegant stroke play. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma decided to bowl first after winning the toss.
Gujarat Titans did two changes to their team, first brought back Sai Sudarshan and Joshua Little in place of Darshan Nalkande and Dasun Shanaka. Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, included Kumar Kartikeya in their lineup. With Chennai Super Kings already securing a place in the final, the match between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians would determine the second finalist to face MS Dhoni's team. Mumbai Indians, with their five IPL titles, had a lot of experience, while Gujarat Titans were the defending champions, eager to win back-to-back titles.
These two teams had faced each other twice in the league stage, with both matches ending in a tie. This high-pressure match on Friday would test the nerves of both teams, as the winner would get the opportunity to challenge Chennai Super Kings in the final.
Mumbai Indians entered the match with confidence, having convincingly defeated Lucknow Super Giants in the eliminator contest. On the other hand, the Gujarat Titans had the advantage of playing at their home ground, having played seven matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium this season.
The form of Shubman Gill was crucial for the Titans, as he had consistently performed well in recent matches and led the batting unit when others struggled. Hardik Pandya, however, needed to regain his form as he had not been at his best throughout the season.

Although Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan had impressed with their bowling, it would be a challenging task to contain Mumbai Indians' strong batting lineup.
While Mumbai Indians managed to restrict Lucknow Super Giants to a below-par total in their previous match at Chepauk, their bowling remained a weak point. Akash Madhwal played well in the absence of Jofra Archer and Jasprit Bumrah in the pace department.
